To lead our Innovation & Research LAB, publicly known as BIG BLUE MARBLE Labs, at ORS comm GmbH & Co KG, we are looking for a Program Lead, BIG BLUE MARBLE Labs, all genders.

Your responsibilities:

Innovation Scouting

  • You scout new technologies, solutions, start-ups, and trends in the streaming and media-tech space.
  • You analyze technological developments and assess their relevance and potential applications for products.
  • You attend industry conferences, trade fairs, and events at home and abroad, build a relevant network, and bring fresh impulses into the company.
  • You work closely with Innovation Management and Professional Services to move promising technologies from assessment through to potential Proofs of Concept.
  • You translate findings into technical blog posts, presentations, trend analyses, and technology analyses.
  • AI and automation are a permanent part of your technology radar, with an eye on concrete use cases in the streaming and platform environment.

Innovation Lab & Proof of Concept Program

  • You lead the operational activities of BIG BLUE MARBLE Labs and coordinate day-to-day innovation processes.
  • You organize and facilitate bi-weekly Proof of Concept sprints with the Full Stack Development team.
  • Together with Product Management, you evaluate ideas in the innovation funnel, prioritize opportunities, and initiate new PoCs.
  • You coordinate PoCs from idea validation to successful completion across technical and business teams.
  • You document PoC outcomes and turn them into reusable knowledge, technical assets, or follow-up initiatives.
  • You continuously improve Lab processes and foster an agile, execution-oriented innovation culture.

Innovation Ecosystem & Strategic Partnerships

  • You represent BIG BLUE MARBLE Labs nationally and internationally with universities, research institutions, public organizations, start-ups, and technology partners.
  • You act as a key contact for strategic collaborations and identify opportunities for joint innovation and research initiatives.
  • You contribute to strategic initiatives across the organization.

Knowledge Transfer & Innovation Communication

  • You communicate innovation outcomes internally and externally.
  • You support technical blogs, conference papers, exhibition contributions, presentations, and other dissemination formats.
  • You prepare management-ready summaries, technology assessments, and recommendations.
  • You promote knowledge sharing across teams and help translate innovation into long-term business value.

Your background:

  • A technical foundation from work as a Full Stack Software Developer, Engineer, or comparable hands-on technical role.
  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a comparable technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Readiness to trade day-to-day coding for coordinating people, representing the company externally, and shaping innovation strategy.
  • Streaming and broadcast media know-how is welcome.
  • Confidence in presenting, networking, and representing BIG BLUE MARBLE at conferences, workshops, and partner meetings.
  • Ability to structure ambiguous, early-stage ideas and turn promising concepts into tangible outcomes.
  • Experience with technical blogs, conference papers, white papers, or presentations is a strong asset.
  • Comfortable working in agile environments and facilitating sprint-based collaboration.
  • Fluent English C1/C2 and German minimum B2 are required.

What we are proposing for you:

In addition to an annual salary in line with the market, benefits include a mobility allowance for the Wiener Linien annual ticket or the Klimaticket, a company canteen, a bonus programme, a pension fund, and a sports programme.

Place of work: Vienna with remote option. Working hours: 38.5 hours per week. Reference number: OC1026CINSE. Starting date: 10/2026.

The gross annual salary is between 56,000 and 72,000 euros for full-time employment. For legal reasons, the minimum salary under the collective agreement is EUR 3,523.02 gross per month.

Remote work: You can work from home, from the modern office in Vienna, or hybrid.

Travel: This position includes occasional national and international business travel of up to four weeks per year.

Rund 430 Sendestandorte hält die Österreichische Rundfunksender GmbH & Co KG in Österreich in Betrieb, vom Stadtrand bis auf den Berggipfel. Über diese Anlagen kommen die Programme des ORF und nahezu aller privaten TV- und Radioanbieter des Landes zu den Zuseherinnen und Zuhörern. Seit Juni 2025 tritt das Unternehmen nach außen unter der Marke Big Blue Marble auf. Vielen ist es weiterhin als ORS ein Begriff.

Entstanden ist die Gesellschaft Anfang 2005, als der ORF seine Sendetechnik in eine eigene Firma ausgliederte. Die Eigentümer sind seither dieselben: 60 Prozent hält der ORF, 40 Prozent die zur Raiffeisen-Gruppe gehörende Medicur Sendeanlagen GmbH. Geführt wird das Unternehmen seit der Ausgliederung von Michael Wagenhofer und Norbert Grill. Der Sitz liegt am Wiener Küniglberg.

Antenne und Satellit sind das Fundament, längst aber nicht mehr alles. Über die Schwestergesellschaft ORS comm läuft die TV-Plattform simpliTV, und 2024 kam der polnische Streaming-Spezialist Insys VT dazu, an dem die ORS 75 Prozent hält. Erste gemeinsame Projekte liefen mit der ARD, dem Deutschen Fußball-Bund und Benfica Lissabon. Daher rührt auch der neue Markenname, benannt nach dem NASA-Foto der Erde. Ein Teil der Sendemasten wird übrigens von Mobilfunkbetreibern mitgenutzt.

Rund 300 Menschen arbeiten in der Gruppe, in Österreich und Polen (Stand Juni 2025). Vor zwanzig Jahren waren es etwa 100. Die Berufsbilder liegen weit auseinander. Field Engineers und Messtechnikerinnen fahren hinaus zu den Anlagen und halten die Sender in Betrieb, während in Wien Fullstack-Developer und Produktmanagerinnen an der Streaming-Seite des Geschäfts arbeiten. Dazu kommen Nachrichtentechnik und Innovationsmanagement sowie die Verwaltung eines Unternehmens dieser Größe.
