Our Center for Digital Safety & Security located in Vienna invites application for an internship. The Competence Unit for Cooperative Digital Technologies is leading in applied research on the development of data-based IT solutions for various application scenarios, including new and innovative solutions supporting society, industry and public administration in increasing preparedness and sustainability.
Our Sustainable and Resilience Society team strengthens organisational resilience through cross-sector collaboration, developing tech solutions for data collection, sharing, analysis, and knowledge management. The team supports decision-making in crisis management and sustainable communities, promoting trusted data exchange and AI-driven tools to enhance planning, response, and resilience to environmental and societal challenges.
- You work with our interdisciplinary team on cutting-edge digital solutions, supporting the creation and development of digital twins across various sectors to enhance projects related to climate-neutral cities, positive energy districts, and climate and environmental initiatives.
- You become familiar with data-driven methodologies and connectivity technologies that drive innovation in sustainable community development and climate resilience.
- You support us in international research projects, gaining valuable insights into technological advancements and applied research methodologies.
- Based on your field of study and expertise, you will actively contribute to our ongoing projects in one of the research areas: Digital Twin Development, Climate or AI-driven Knowledge Services and Decision Support.
- You will have the opportunity to exchange ideas with experienced researchers and connect with other bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD students in a collaborative and inspiring research environment.
- You contribute to the execution of national and international projects, gaining valuable experience and deep insights into an innovative technological landscape.
Your qualifications as an Ingenious Partner:
- You are pursuing a master’s degree in informatics, Computer Science, Data Science, Geoinformatics, Sustainability, Smart Cities, Circular Economy, Climate Science, Environmental Engineering, Disaster Management, Artificial Intelligence, Engineering or a related field.
- You are in your 4th semester or higher and enrolled at an Austrian university.
- You have strong analytical skills and can critically evaluate AI-generated content related to urban development, climate adaptation, and mitigation.
- Depending on the internship, you assess the accuracy, relevance, and coherence of AI-generated text, ensuring it aligns with scientific findings and practical applications in sustainability.
- Basic software engineering knowledge and interest in GIS.
- Programming skills like Java, Python, Docker and knowledge of cloud resources such as GCP or AWS.
- Analytical thinking and enthusiasm for highly innovative research.
- Interest in the conception of scientific studies and application-oriented questions of the industry.
- Interest to work in a multidisciplinary team and collaborate on different topics.
- Proficiency in English, with German and other language skills being a plus.
What to expect:
- Duration of the internship: minimum 2 months.
- Start date: late spring/summer 2026, with flexibility concerning the start date.
- A remuneration of at least EUR 1.415 gross per month for 38.5 hours per week. In addition to company benefits, flexible working conditions and work experience in a highly innovative environment are offered.
AIT participates in the Internship programme for female students of the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG). The programme aims to encourage young female scientists to pursue careers in applied research in STEM-related RTI fields and to increase the proportion of female researchers and engineers in companies.
