Internship “Software Development – Focus on Cyber Range Technologies”

The Center for Digital Safety & Security located in Vienna invites applications for an internship. Its experts develop state-of-the-art information and communication technologies to ensure highly secure and reliable systems in the context of digitalisation and global networking.

The Cyber Security Research Field, part of the Competence Unit Security and Communication Technologies, specialises in applied research for digital security and develops innovative concepts, algorithms and systems for anomaly detection, cyber threat intelligence, penetration testing and cryptography.

Your tasks

• Under the guidance of an interdisciplinary team, you deal intensively with the topic Cyber Range, which involves the design, development and operation of advanced simulation and training environments for cyber security.
• Together with the research team, you will contribute to new solutions for the Cyber Range, ranging from backend and infrastructure development to automation and orchestration components.
• Depending on your skills and interests, you will work on software development, backend or frontend, DevOps processes, and integration of monitoring and analytics tools.
• You will gain hands-on experience with real Cyber Range deployments, participate in ongoing projects and exercises, and get insights into how cyber ranges are used for training, testing and research.
• You can apply your academic knowledge to real-world security challenges and contribute to applied research that shapes the next generation of defense mechanisms for connected systems.

Your qualifications as an Ingenious Partner

• You are studying in the field of Informatics, Data Science & Artificial Intelligence or similar.
• You already have your Bachelor’s degree and are enrolled in your Master’s studies.
• Good programming skills in Python, Go or other scientific programming languages.
• Good skills in frontend languages and frameworks, JavaScript, CSS or VueJS are a plus.
• At least basic domain knowledge in Cyber Security.
• Analytical thinking and enthusiasm for highly innovative research.
• Interest to work in a multidisciplinary team and collaborate on different topics.
• Good verbal and written English and/or German skills.

What to expect

• Duration of the internship: minimum 2 months
• Start date: summer 2026, with some flexibility concerning the start date
• A remuneration of EUR 1.415 gross per month for 38.5 hours per week.
