Internships
The IAEA accepts a limited number of interns each year. The internships are awarded to persons studying towards a university degree or who have recently received a degree.
The purpose of the programme is to provide interns with the opportunity to gain practical work experience in line with their studies or interests, and expose them to the work of the IAEA and the United Nations as a whole. It also benefits the IAEA's programmes through the assistance of qualified students specialized in various professional fields.
Organizational Setting
The Department of Safeguards carries out the IAEA's duties and responsibilities as the world's nuclear inspectorate, supporting global efforts to stop the spread of nuclear weapons. The Office of Information and Communication Systems is responsible for secure Information and Communication Technology services that enable the Department of Safeguards to deliver on its mandate.
Main Purpose
The Project Section is seeking an intern to join its team and contribute to projects and initiatives related to project governance, emerging technologies and digital transformation.
As an intern, you will work alongside experienced professionals and advance your skills by supporting governance activities, conducting research, and contributing to documentation and reporting.
Functions / Key Results Expected
- Support project governance activities, including the preparation and review of policies, procedures and related documentation.
- Contribute to the governance of AI-enabled and digital transformation projects by assisting with project monitoring, documentation and reporting.
- Conduct research on AI governance, emerging technologies and industry best practices to support policy and decision-making.
- Assist in documenting and analysing business processes and identifying opportunities to responsibly leverage AI and automation.
Qualifications and Experience
- University degree in information technology, computer science, artificial intelligence, software engineering, business administration or a related field.
- Experience working with technical documentation in English and producing reports, for example as part of studies or work experience.
- Good understanding of business processes and business process improvement, including the use of AI and automation.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Applicant Eligibility
- Candidates must be at least 20 years old and have completed at least three years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards a first degree.
- Candidates may apply up to one year after completion of a bachelor's, master's or doctorate degree.
- Candidates must not have previously participated in the IAEA internship programme.
- Good written and spoken English is essential; fluency in another IAEA official language is an asset.
- Candidates must attach two signed letters of recommendation to their application.
