Using artificial intelligence and machine vision, SEA.AI provides crews on boats and ships with an accurate digital understanding of a vessel's near-field surface surroundings. The company makes marine mobility safer and more convenient and is a multi-national team based in Austria, France, Portugal and the US. For the office in Vienna SEA.AI is looking for an AI Vision Engineer (m/w/d).
The Role
SEA.AI systems run on embedded hardware on vessels worldwide, turning sensor data into the situational awareness and alerts crews rely on. You will be responsible for the quality of the perception stack: understanding what makes an alert trustworthy and improving every stage that contributes to it.
What You'll Do
- Maintain and keep pushing the limits of the computer vision pipeline, composed of NNs, MOT, projective geometry, and sensor fusion.
- Turn new data and better models into a repeatable process so improvements can ship more often.
- Explore where frontier models like VLMs can help, from labeling to internal tools to product ideas.
- Raise the team's bar on computer vision by connecting new problems to past experience and established techniques.
- Own technical planning and delivery for multi-sprint initiatives, including risk, dependencies and progress.
- Work closely with hardware, product, and AI colleagues.
What You Bring
- 5+ years of AI/CV work that made it past notebooks.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals, maintainable code and code review collaboration.
- Experience adapting proven open-source solutions to new domains.
- Strong grounding in computer vision geometry, camera models, calibration and multi-view geometry.
- Experience choosing computer vision architectures, from CNNs to transformers and foundation models.
- Experience getting models onto embedded or otherwise constrained hardware within a real-time budget.
- Experience making ML reproducible through disciplined workflows, versioned data and repeatable experiments.
- Fluent communication in English; other languages are a plus.
- Experience with sensor fusion, depth estimation or perception systems for maritime, robotics or autonomous vehicle applications is a plus.
