The following position will be filled at the Department of Information Technology (ITEC) at the Faculty of Technical Sciences with an anticipated starting date of December 1, 2026:

Assistant Professor (postdoc) with QA option (tenure track) (all genders welcome)

Level of employment: 100 % (40 hours/week)

Minimum salary: EUR 70,200.20 per annum gross, classification according to collective agreement: B1 lit.b

Limited to: 6 years, with the option of transitioning to a permanent contract

Your responsibilities - what awaits you

  • Independent research in multimedia systems technologies
  • Independent delivery of courses in English and German using established and innovative methods
  • Participation in the research and teaching projects run by the organisational unit
  • Acquisition and management of third-party funded projects
  • Supervision of students at Bachelor, Master, and doctoral levels
  • Participation in organisational and administrative tasks and in quality assurance measures
  • Contribution to expanding the international scientific and cultural contacts of the organisational unit
  • Participation in public relations activities, including third mission

Your profile

  • Doctoral degree in the field of computer science, information and communications engineering, electrical engineering or related fields completed at a domestic or foreign higher education institution
  • Experience in the acquisition and running of highly competitive third-party funded projects of a significant volume
  • Relevant scientific record in the field of multimedia systems, including publications, awards and invited presentations
  • A strong background at the level of habilitation in distributed multimedia systems, preferably covering video in the context of video coding, communication, streaming, and quality of experience, and/or machine learning in the context of distributed multimedia systems or computer vision
  • Very good scientific communication and dissemination skills
  • Excellent programming skills in multimedia systems and/or machine learning
  • Excellent spoken and written English skills

  • The employment contract stipulates a starting salary of EUR 5,014.30 gross per month, paid 14 times a year.
  • Upon entering into the qualification agreement, the position shall be classified as an Assistant Professorship with a minimum gross salary of EUR 5,904 per month.
  • Upon fulfilling the qualification agreement, the post-holder shall be promoted to tenured Associate Professor with a minimum gross salary of EUR 6,389.50 per month.

Forschende der Universität Klagenfurt haben an der Navigation von Ingenuity mitgearbeitet, dem kleinen NASA-Hubschrauber, der über den Mars geflogen ist. Solche Projekte entstehen an einer vergleichsweise jungen Hochschule. Gegründet 1970, aufgenommen wurde der Lehrbetrieb 1973. Heute lernen und forschen hier rund 13.300 Studierende, getragen von 1.743 Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeitern.

Der Campus liegt in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee und gliedert sich seit 2023 in vier Fakultäten, von den Technischen Wissenschaften bis zu Kultur- und Bildungswissenschaften. In den Hörsälen unterrichten rund 800 Lehrende. In den Instituten und Laboren arbeiten wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter an Themen, die es bis zur NASA schaffen, und auf dem Gelände steht eine der größten Drohnen-Forschungshallen Europas, eröffnet 2019. Dazu kommt der ganze Betrieb, den eine Universität dieser Größe braucht: Bibliothek und IT, Gebäudetechnik, Personal, Forschungsservice, Öffentlichkeitsarbeit. Wer hier arbeitet, muss also nicht zwingend lehren oder forschen. Das Umfeld ist international. Rund jede fünfte Person im Hörsaal kommt aus dem Ausland, aus etwa 100 Ländern, zuletzt 2.915 internationale Studierende (Wintersemester 2024/25). Als juristische Person des öffentlichen Rechts nach dem Universitätsgesetz 2002 ist die Universität ein öffentlich getragener Arbeitgeber mit entsprechend geregelten Anstellungsverhältnissen. Neben den klassischen akademischen Laufbahnen, von der Doktoratsstelle bis zur Professur, gehört akademische Weiterbildung fest zum Auftrag: Berufsbegleitende Universitätslehrgänge richten sich an Menschen, die schon mitten im Arbeitsleben stehen. Rund 1.000 Studien werden pro Jahr abgeschlossen. Angefangen hat all das 1970 mit einer Hochschule für Bildungswissenschaften; den Zusatz Alpen-Adria trägt die Universität seit 2004.
