Job Description

We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Business Insights Analyst to join our Data & AI team, Switzerland-Austria. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for data and a drive to foster data literacy within cross-functional teams. This role will be pivotal in turning data into actionable insights, exploring new data sources, supporting marketing effectiveness, brand performance, sales force effectiveness, omnichannel effectiveness, forecasting accuracy and providing insights into health pathways and customer and patient journeys.

This is a new position and we are planning to recruit 3 BIAs to support the assigned Business Unit (Oncology, Vaccines, Pharma Specialty).

Location: Vienna, Austria / Lucerne, Switzerland.

Responsibilities:

Business Insights & Decision Support:

  • Generate actionable insights from existing and new external data sources to inform strategic planning and operational decision‑making. Act as a thought partner to cross‑functional teams.

Commercial Performance Insights:

  • Deliver integrated insights across marketing effectiveness, brand performance, sales force effectiveness and omnichannel engagement to support optimisation and growth.

Insight Enablement & Communication:

  • Translate complex data into clear, relevant insights and recommendations for nontechnical stakeholders, leveraging dashboards and analyses as enablers.

Forecasting & Planning Support:

  • Contribute to forecasting accuracy and business planning through trend analysis, predictive models and forwardlooking insights in close collaboration with business, finance and operations.

Customer, Patient & Health Pathway Insights:

  • Provide insights into customer, patient and health pathways to identify opportunities to improve engagement, experience and outcomes.

Market Research & Customer Insights: 

  • Lead qualitative and quantitative market research and tracking to deliver deeper customer insights, leveraging new methodologies such as behavioural science. Oversee external research vendors in collaboration with procurement and ensure market research activities comply with applicable data privacy and governance requirements (e.g. GDPR).

Experimentation & Learning:

  • Support experimentlearnadapt approaches by evaluating initiatives and translating results into actionable recommendations.

Crossfunctional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with commercial, digital, medical, market access and finance teams to ensure insights address real business needs and drive impact.

Your Profile:

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in business analysis, data analysis, or a related role.

  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and software (e.g., SQL, Power BI, Excel, QlikSense, Tableau).

  • Knowledge of statistical analysis and experience with statistical tools (e.g., Python, R) is a strong plus.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organise, analyse and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to convey complex data insights to non-technical audiences.

  • Experience working in cross-functional teams and managing multiple stakeholders.

The minimum annual salary for this position in Austria is EUR 74.600,-- and varies according to the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. In den Wiener Labors von MSD laufen Jahr für Jahr rund 50 klinische Studien, im niederösterreichischen Krems entstehen Impfstoffe für die Tiergesundheit, die von dort in die ganze Welt gehen. Hinter beidem steht dieselbe Firma: Merck Sharp & Dohme Ges.m.b.H., die österreichische Tochter des US-Pharmakonzerns Merck & Co. Rund 950 Menschen arbeiten hier.

MSD ist der Name, unter dem Merck & Co. mit Sitz in Rahway, New Jersey, außerhalb der USA und Kanadas auftritt – eines der großen forschenden Pharmaunternehmen weltweit. In Österreich ist die Gesellschaft seit 1971 tätig, ihren Sitz hat sie im THE ICON VIENNA am Wiedner Gürtel in Wien. Sie entwickelt, prüft und produziert Medikamente und Impfstoffe, und das für Menschen wie für Tiere. In Wien liegt der Schwerpunkt auf der Humanmedizin, etwa in der Onkologie und bei Impfstoffen. In Krems stellt MSD Impfstoffe für die Tiergesundheit her. Viele dieser Produkte verlassen Österreich und gehen in den Export.

Weil das Unternehmen Forschung, Produktion und Vertrieb unter einem Dach hat, ist die Bandbreite der Berufe groß. Im Labor und in der Produktion arbeiten Naturwissenschaftlerinnen und Technikerinnen, im Außendienst und im medizinischen Bereich betreuen Fachleute Ärztinnen, Ärzte und Kliniken, dazu kommen Aufgaben in Einkauf und Supply Chain. Wie sich die rund 950 Stellen genau auf die drei Standorte verteilen, weist MSD öffentlich nicht im Detail aus.

Dass viele lange bleiben, zeigt eine Zahl: Die durchschnittliche Betriebszugehörigkeit liegt bei knapp zehn Jahren. Zwei von drei Beschäftigten sind Frauen, im Haus werden mehr als 15 Sprachen gesprochen. Wer eine Lehre sucht, wird in Krems fündig, denn dort bildet MSD seit 2025 auch Lehrlinge aus.
